Missed the Oscars?

If you didn’t, you have to admit, it was great last night (or this morning, if you viewed the Oscars from the UK or WAT). From the slays and yays on the officially returned red carpet — a reminder of what it felt like to hold a grand event pre-COVID — Regina King (Regina Queen?) in custom Louis Vuitton was everything; and that Daniel Kaluuya acceptance speech? Oh, Kaluuya, with your African mama in attendance!

Okay – there were no nominee movie clips preceding the winner announcement; or wrap-up music. We do love some traditional Oscar stuff, but hey, the rest was pretty cool.

If you did miss Oscars 2021, here are our top bits from the 93rd Academy Awards.

“With Your African Mother in Attendance, Kaluuya?”

Daniel Kaluuya’s mother was less than impressed with his speech. He thanked his parents for the s– that resulted in his birth! Hmmm.

The ‘Da Butt’ Dance

Glenn Close not only remembered Da’Butt dance from the funk song Da’Butt by Experience Unlimited (soundtrack to the 1988 movie, School Daze), she showed the young ‘uns how it’s done!

“Mr. Brad Pitt, Finally

Brad Pitt’s man bun took us back to the 90’s but it was the striking excitement that Best Supporting Actress, Yun-Jung Youn, showed for meeting the 59 year-old A-list actor that totally did it for us.

Tyler Perry’s Timely Speech

He was honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and shared a wonderful speech about ‘refusing to hate’. Tyler, we love you! And for saving our Duke and Duchess, let’s give him another award! A true gent.

The Best Actor Award

Sir. Anthony Hopkins was a worthy Best Actor Award winner for Father. This was also the award Chadwick Boseman was nominated for, but hey, it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving winner.

Frances McDormand’s Wolf Cry

The three-time Best Actress Oscar winner howled in memory of the sound mixer of Nomadland, Michael Wolf Snyder, when she came up alongside director Chloé Zhao as Nomadland picked up Best Picture.

Chloé Zhoe Makes History

Chloé Zhao’s win was a statement of many moments. The Nomadland movie earned the Best Picture, got Zhao Best Director, and made Frances McDormand Best Actress. Epic!

Tribute to Movie Heroes

Movie personalities, filmmakers, actors, and execs who passed on in 2020 and 2021 were honored in the Oscars In Memoriam.

Boseman Snubbed?

Chadwick Boseman’s loss at the Oscars was a talking point. He lost the Best Actor Award to Anthony Hopkins, but, as Oprah posted on her Instagram, “[He] will remain one of the greatest actors, with or without an Oscar”. Truth.

And, if you haven’t seen these movies, you can do as Frances McDormand implores:
“Please, watch our movie on the largest screen possible.” Throw your own personal Oscar event – we so need an excuse, any excuse, to glam up!
